Lance Berkman hit the slam:

I was returning from church after driving most of the night from a gig and staying awake from the adrenalin in anticipation of game 4. In the moments before, I had this sinking feeling in my stomach and had already started to make plans with my brother-in-law as to where we were going to watch game 5. Bases loaded, Berkman at the plate, I stood in front of my TV with my arms folded in only my church shirt and my boxers...Berkman hit it. I'd never talked about sex with my teenage daughter (my wife's job) but there I was, humping the air like it was my favorite pillow during my horny highschools. My daughter was aghast, I was elated, my wife wanted Berkman to hit another one.

Brad hit the HR:

You're gonna think I am lying but I was on the phone with my Dad and asked him to image what it would do for Brad's year if he tied it up. He has Time -Warner cable and I have the Dish network and his feed is about a second ahead of mine...

Me- "...Yeah Pop, Ausmus needs to do something, because although he's put together a good second half, he..."

Pop- "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Me- "What? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

When Luke came close-

My wife was sitting on the floor alphabetizing the DVD's near the TV. As she glanced at the TV she said she'd never heard of Luke Scott. She is not a real fan but I think that she sensed the pressure and tried to distract me. "He's a rookie, was added to the roster over this black dude because of his power...yeah right".

Honestly, when Luke hit it, I grabbed her from behind and leaned with the line of the ball until it had landed, we ended up on the floor. Even though I heard 'foul ball', I couldn't help but focus in on and BELIEVE in the one fan near the foul pole that was doing the same spinning motion with his finger as the member of the umpiring crew did after Brad’s blast. Daym.

Clemens-

When Roger retired, I watched his last pitch and told my wife to pay attention because we had just seen the last pitch of the greatest pitcher ever. Little did I know then that he would be the last pitcher in the greatest game ever. He was my savior during my mid life crisis, I was 40 and tripping, he was 45 and killin um, he is an inspiration, hopefully I can tell him that someday.

The 18th-

"PROBLEM? WE HAVE A HOUSTON!" is something I've been trying to get out there since hurricane Katrina. I've been daydreaming about 40 thousand fans wearing the t-shirt... ESPN there... Joe Morgan saying, what a slogan! Problem we have a Houston indeed.

I actually had church at 6pm and I play the organ so I HAD to be there. As we left the house (5:40) I started to stress out about how selfish I was for being annoyed with the fact that I had to go to church during THIS game, wouldn't God understand? (5:50) I was a few minutes from the church listening to Milo and Ash. Ash had just had a Lidgesque slip of the tongue as he said "****ty" instead of "city", Milo didn't let him off the hook. They joked around about the slip and were surprisingly comfortable with it, it was good stuff. Hope this isn't too dramatic but I was thinking about how I grew up on Milo and how cool it would be to hear his call live if we actually won it. When I was a kid I was scared to sleep alone and my dad would let me listen to the Stros or Rockets so I could get to sleep. Sometimes I wish Gene Petersen would do the Rockets games because I like him so much better. But no one can get me fired up like he does during an Astros game and today was no different. (5:57) Two blocks from the church, all I heard was...

Chris Burke...game...fans...Beaumont affiliate...AND IT'S A DRIVE!

I started blowing my horn and scared this Mexican family driving next to me. I couldn't believe it! I wanted to do my pillow pump but didn't have room. I got to church and it had barely begun, my Pastor had heard and gave me a wink and a head nod. He believed in my "Problem? We have a Houston!" concept, and now maybe because of the greatest baseball game ever played, someone else will too.

I actually was just at home watching and then I went to a Church Bazar in the 11th inning. I missed Berkman's Hr because I was flipping back and forth with the Texans but saw Ausmus's. Ausmus maybe a weak hitter, but dude is clutch.

Was there with my wife on our 1 yr anniversary (she suggested the game, what a wonderful lady :D ). We were on the upper deck for the grand slam and standing room only down the third base line for the rest.

For all those events - bout 2 feet away from my TV watching it with my boys. We had on our rally caps, rotated seats every two innings for good luck, and went wild. Damn that was a bad ass game.

I was in 131, row 34, seat 13, jumping my fat ass up and down for all three HRs. Got chills when Roger came in and I immediately looked at the television close to us to see how close Luke's foul ball was to being fair.

With West Coast timing and a late night from before, I Was tired. My wife and had wanted to go to breakfast, but the game was on. About the 6th inning we figured we could wait until 1pm because we had an ihop discount coupon for after 1pm. My wife was in the room on phone with her sister who lives in NY. Bases were loaded, and I laughed to myself for being silly and thinking about how a HR would put the stros within one run.

Then Berkman hit it. I stated yelling GRAND SLAM!!!! GRAND SLAM!!!! over and over again. My sister-in-law heard on the other end of the phone and started laughing then she and my wife started talking about baseball. My wife got off the phone and was watching the game, pacing, and getting nervous.

Ausmus hit the ball and I didn't know if it was HR or not, until I saw the ump circling his arms. My wife and I started hugging each other, high-fiving, kissing, and I did a couple of victory laps around my mother-in-law's living room.

About the 13th inning my wife made hot and spicy Ramen noodles to hold us over until the game ended. We were starving.

When Clemens came in we my wife kept talking about how amazing it is that he was going on two days rest at his age, and that somehow his body must have been made especially for pitching. She also said that if the Natural had been about a pitcher it could have been like Roger Clemens. Then when Christ Burke hit the homer she said she felt like crying, and I was just jumping up and down.

Watched first 3 innings while eating lunch at Bennigan's galleria.
Headed home (sinus headache problem), watched 6-8 (top half),
turned off the TV aftter the kid McCann belted one out, went to sleep (sinus headache too much).

Woke-up a little after 5, turned on my pc to check FFL scores, surprised to see the game is on the bottom of the 15th inning.

Turned on the TV, watched 16-18 innings, surprised my sinus headache is gone. Turned on the radio for post-game show, tried to call, busy lines.

Lance Berkman hit the slam:

Playing Star Wars Rogue Squadron on Gamecube. I had the game on in the other room but I missed it. I admit, I didn't think we would come back at all and played videos games while checking on the score.

Brad hit the HR:

Watching game again in living room in amazement.

When Luke came close-

same as above

Clemens-

watching in living room / outside bar realizing I was witnessing history

The 18th-

I was moving crap around my living room and still putting stuff back together from from Rita. I was watching game, but I needed to move around.

Chris Burke...game...fans...Beaumont affiliate...AND IT'S A DRIVE!

Watching with wife outside on my patio bar tv. I knew it was gone when it left the bat.

I actually watched innings 1-11. Then I had to make it to a round of golf, so I Tivo'd the game.

When I reach golf course 30 minutes later they are showing the game in the clubhouse. Bases loaded Braves, 14th inning or so. I say, "We're screwed, and quickly leave so I will see the suspense on my Tivo later."

After golf, I rush back to my car, make sure, no radio or outside communication can be heard. I ignore 3 phone calls. I go home, and to my surprise the Tivo has recorded another 2.5 hrs worth of game after I left at the 11th inning.

I watch inning after inning, the TIVO is running out of tape, and I'm like, "oh crap" I gonna miss the ending.

Exactly one minute before the Tivo coverage runs out Burke hits the HR. This was at 9PM.

I miss the celebration, but got to see the HR. Single greatest Astro game ever watched, or Tivo'd at least.

I sat in my really hot car w/out any AC listenin to the game from the beginning to right after LaRoche's grand slam and i was pretty pissed. We went home and I watched the rest at my house and when in the 9th when we needed a run, I ran to my room and put on my astros' shirt and then ausmus hit that home run!!! I seriously thought in the 18th clemens was gonna do a homerun the way he was swinging but burke did it right after. This was in my parents' bedroom by the ways.

Started watching the game from the beginning. After the Braves went up 4-0, I got pissed and actually started to *gasp* watch the Texans game. I flipped back and forth for the next few innings. I saw us make it 5-1, only to see Wandy give up the HR soon after that to put me in an even worse mood.

I don't remember when I switched it back, but I know I saw the entire 8th inning because I remember them taking Hudson out and feel happy about that. Lance came up and I thought "We'd be right back in this thing if Lance goes deep", but I knew that was just a pipe dream. Well, Lance goes yard and I start jumping around my living room, high fiving my dogs because they were the only ones there. When Ausmus hit the ball deep the next inning and I finally realized it was a HR, I went nuts. Opened up the back door and just started yelling.

The game went on, and for many innings I wouldn't allow myself to urinate because I thought I had the winning urine in my bladder since we had tied the game with it in there. I had to go really bad last year during one of the Rockets games, but I held it and eventually they won it. Some of you that were in the chat room with me back then may remember that. My wife came home around the 13th inning, and I finally had to go out of fear of pissing on myself. She started watching the game with me around the 16th innings. Once Burke went deep I just started jumping in circles, kissing my wife, kissing my dogs....GREAT MOMENT! :D

Lance Berkman hit the slam:

I was down the third base line, a little to the left of Ensberg, in the 2nd row.

Watched it wiz above my head and then I proceeded to jump up and down.

Brad hit the HR:

I won't lie, I thought it was over. I ran up the stairs to the bathroom and "went" real quick and then ran back, while I was walking back to my chair Brad hits the ball I look over at my friends and say "Holy ****!"

It hit off the wall, my hands, that were praying to god above my head, quickly came down because me and everyone around me thought it was just a extra base hit.

I turned to one of my firends and said, "What the ****, why is Brad jogging, (I turn to Brad) ****ing run!"

I soon realize that yes it was a HR and I could go crazy again.

When Luke came close:

Wow from where I was sitting, there was no question in my mind it was out.
Mabye the whole hysteria of the moment that we just won the game clouded my judgment, but myself and everyone around me thought for sure it was out.

I was hugging, slapping hands, you know, cool stuff like that. Then they called it a foul ball and I just stood there with my arms raised and my shoulders shrugged as to say "What the hell".

Clemens-

By this time me and my friends had moved to open seats by my Uncle and parents, they were located behind homeplate, barely to the left, and about 5 rows up (awsome seats). I saw Roger warming up and told everyone so, but my friend seemed assured that it was Pettitte. Not only was he too bulky to be Pettitte I knew that Andy wasn't even there at the time.

When he came out to pinch-hit the crowd went wild, this might have been just as loud as when Burke hit the HR.

He laid down a bunt and and everyone continued to go crazy as he walked back into the dugout.

While there were some relatively frustrating innings to follow, it was really a treat to watch Roger work. I couldn't believe what he was doing considering all the outside attributes (age, rest, situation, etc.)

The 18th-

Im sure most of the people in the ballpark suspected Roger to hit a HR even more than Burke hitting one, Ensberg realistically.

It caught me totally off gaurd and once he hit it my body went numb as I was being pushed around in a moshpit type fiasco.

I got on top of my chair and turned around and got absolutely showered by confetti, and it was great. I felt like the king of the world.

I ended up staying with my group until all the players went in, and they provided us with some intertainment even though watching the greatest playoff game ever was entertaining enough.

Man I love this team.

Miguel, I love the effort you are putting into getting the whole game. If you ever do, can I request a torrent of it, or I will mail you a tape/DVD whatever you need so that I can get a copy.

I like baseball games, especially when I am there live. I can watch them on TV but don't usually watch that many of them until the playoffs. Even ones that the Astros win, I would almost never watch again. It doesn't have the same replayability IMO as basketball.

But that game, I could watch a million times. I will want to hold on to it forever and just watch it periodically. It was such an amazing amazing thing.

I woke up at 11:45am, just in time for the game... went to my "recreational room" (think two computers, big tv, dvds, surround sound, mini fridge, etc) and turned on the game at 12:00 and sat in my computer chair... and didn't get up for 6 hours until I jumped around like a moron after each blast. During the entire time of the game I just had the feeling that we were going to come out on top, and I absolutely loved every moment of it.

Many of you who post regularly in Astros threads are aware of my "positive" outlook when it comes to this team, and I didn't doubt them one bit... blind faith. Baseball is my love, the Astros are my team and all other sports and teams come in second. I remember going to the Astros games when I was 5 all dressed up in my T-Ball uniform chanting "CRUUUUUUUUUZ" and the like... and I've been chanting for the Stros ever since.

How special is it that Phil Garner, Jose Cruz and Nolan Ryan were all on the Astros in game 6 in 1986 and were all on site for our redemption from that moment? Every part of that game showed the class and style of this organization and the city of Houston. Players and Fans (yes, Houston fans) giving it their all for 18 innings, sacrificing themselves for the good of the team...

The moves of Phil Garner, a man who has done more in one and a half seasons then his predecessors could do in over 40 years... hopefully you've all learned not to question the method to his madness, the man knows what he is doing. The gutsiness of Dan Wheeler and Roger Clemens, and the humbleness of Clemens to say "How about the kid?" And the kid's answer to how it did it... "Prayer."

Funny, but the prayer came through for me too ;-)

He has never hit an HR as a professional ballplayer.

He spent most of his career in the AL, so that's not really telling. He does hit .200 which ain't bad, and other pitchers have hit them over the years. And he was facing a guy who was pitching in college in May. I thought about it. Loved it when he took that huge first cut. Strange things have happened before...

When Berkman hit the Grand Slam I was walking back to the tailgate from the Texans game. A lady was listening to the game on her headphones and just started screaming. We asked what was going on and she told us about the HR. But honestly, the crowd was still in such a shock from the Texans BS, we didn't say much.

For the Ausmus HR, we were in the Yellow Lot gathered around a TV with about 20 strangers, but the TV sucked so bad that we mainly were just listening to the sound.

For the rest of the game we gathered around a better TV with the game blaring out of most of the cars that were left at the tailgate.

berkman slam
i was in the apartment with my roommate watching. the whole game i was thinking to myself...a grand slam could make this game. i never thought that type of thinking would work.

ausmus's hr
my roommates were wondering why bagwell wasnt pinch hitting. i was kinda confused too, but i told them ausmus was clutch. they kinda gave me a funny look (he did only hit 3 hrs this yr) and then ausmus lays one them. i looked at them and they were like...okay you were right.

luke's foul ball
my friend (she's from st louis and a HUGE cards fan) called me and asked if she could come watch the game. we kinda think she is bad luck (i took her to one of the games at mmp when we played the cards this yr and we lost, she would watch a few games with us and whenever she was around we would lose. i.e. she comes in game 1 and andruw jones hits the homer. when she left we started scoring. she watched the last game til we were down 6-1, when she leaves is when the berkman slam and ausmus homer. now tell me that isnt bad luck...) so i didnt really want her to come. she came anyways...that is when luke scott hit his foul ball. we promptly blamed her.

burke's walkoff
my roommates and i seriously thought that clemens was going to homer (or secretly hoped). well when he struck out we saw burke come up. my last famous words were....well, you're capable of a homer.

I'm working in Taiwan currently so when the game started, it was already 1am. Since my tv is broken at the minute, I took a tip from the guys in the other thread and started up the KTRH live feed before the game started to see if it would stay up. Lo and behold, it was going and things were good. I was in the middle of doing a HDD swap for my friend's Apple ibook (bigger pain in the ass then I could have imagined), and listening to the game at the same time. As the game went on and the score was stuck at 6-1 with Hudson cruising, I figured there was no way we were coming back. However, after the Berkman slam I started getting that feeling, you guys know the one. Anyways, by the time Ausmus came up to bat, I was wondering why Bagwell wasn't pinch-hitting but looks like leaving Ausmus in was the right decision after all.

At this point I expected the game to end pretty quickly within a few innings at the most, but it kept on dragging and by the time the 15th inning rolled around it was already 530am. Since I had some folks coming over, I figured it was about time for me to go to sleep, so it wasn't until I woke up and found out that Clemens had gone into pitch 3 innings and the Burke had hit the walk off. Truly amazing game.

I got home from church, after lunch, had forgotten the game was even happening, and took a nap.

When I got up to go back to church by 6pm, it still hadn't dawned on me that the game was going on.

So, I'm at church, sitting at the drums during a worship song and my wireless begins to vibrate (thank goodness I'd remembered to silence it)... A quick check of the caller ID to see if it was an emergency, but it was just a friend from South Texas that I was certain had forgotten that I was in church... I gave it the "busy signal message." He didn't leave a voice mail. Nope, no emergency.

When I got home, there was a message on my land line... it was my friend singing, "Houston Astros" to the old Oilers tune... He says, "They did it again!" And hung up. It was at that moment, around 9:17pm that I remembered that game 4 was that afternoon... I frantically turned the channels, but found nothing.

Finally in the little blurp about the upcoming halftime show on the ESPN sunday night NFL game, Berman said a sentence or two about the 'Stros winning "in 18." I ran into the living room (as we were at the dining room table with the TV on in the living room) only to miss the clip...

Halftime. I saw some snippets of the highlights, and actually got teary-eyed. Partly because I missed it all, partly because we have another shot at the WS, and partly because I was glad I hadn't sat through the stress of it all. (they did it without me...)

Then, I logged onto the BBS, read like 25 pages of the "Astros vs. Braves" thread, picking up where I'd last read... I could feel the tension, the desperation, the shock, the excitement, and more tension, then the sheer jubilee in the posts. Once I saw the coverage on SportsCenter, I was just speechless, giggling on the recliner... I stayed up past the NFL Primetime show just to watch the highlights on SportsCenter again.

I'm really planing to watch the "instant classic" presentation on Tues. at noon... I'll tape it at least...

If I remember it's on. :D

I was at my GF`s parents farm outside Omaha helping out since its harvest and we came into eat around 5pm and I watched the 10th through the 18th. It was awesome......The Rocket was amazing and Burke became a trivia answer. Great game, I miss going to MMP

I was bartending! I work at BW3's in the Village and I was one of the guys working the bar area! I'm sure some of you were there, damn that was crazy. Anyway, they wouldn't let us leave until the game was over. My shift was supposed to end at 4 and the game was "supposed" to end at 3:30. Needless to say I didn't leave until 6:30 or 7. It was a great environment to watch the game in though. I'll never forget it. I felt like I was as exhausted as the players since I had to work straight through that game. It was great though. Everyone at the bar was into every pitch. Except some loser in a Cowboy's hat.

Had the bigscreen on ESPN HD since 11am watching the NFL pregame and then the Astros. Ran split screen with the Astros and Bears(nfl package) until the Bears coughed it up.

By the time the 18th inning rolled around I had a house full of neighbors and we were all going crazy.

One of those things I'll never forget, just like the Kiss of Death and ClutchCity - Amazing.

After church, I watched the game on my big TV in the living room since I had the house to my self. Then in the top of the 8th I realized that the previous games I had watched in my bedroom (small TV) they won and the one time I did watch it in the living room (game 2) they lost. So I quickly went to my bedroom and once Berkman hit the grand slam I stopped switching channels, from the Texans to the Astros, in fear I might jinx them. I watched the rest of the game in my bedroom and went crazy with every big play. It was an awesome game.
