Great defensive minded coach. Stagnent on offense. Too conservative on offense. I hate it.

did the preseason game prompt this???

That has certainly been this teams M.O. until now, if that continues through the season I will be upset.

wait...are you saying they run the ball too much??? or that they just don't throw it down the field enough??
i'm thinking i'd classify the patriots and eagles, last year's Super Bowl teams, as conservative. it seems, from year to year, that the very best teams are running pretty ground-driven conservative offenses. it's the teams like the Rams that are the surprise when they contend.

I would like to see them throw down field more often. Carr is capable of making the passes, and with a WR with as much speed as AJ, we should try it more often.

no, I just got excited about football season for a second there and then I realized this all internally in my own head, nothing prompted this other than my own internal struggle with this.

I've never liked Capers... he is way too damned conservative on offense. Our QB easily has one of the stronger arms in the league and we never use it.

Don't beat yourself up. I'm not a big Capers fan either, but trust very few other coaches in the NFL right now.
I will say this. I didn't see the initial drive as being very conservative. You can only mix it up so much, in the limited plays.
- I was happy to see DD run successfully on the left side with Riley and Pitts there. That surprised me.
- When Carr motioned left and then took off out of bounds, I thought the offense pulled it off well. When your QB is the target, it's not conservative.
- The screen pass to AJ is money as he usually gets at least 5-10 yeards on it when the corners give him space. Good audible play.
- The 4 attempts on the 1, was the coaching's fault. There was no one on Lynch twice.

I think one of the reason carr gets sacked and rushed so much is beacause they run on 1st and 2nd down and everyone in the stadium knows that they are throwing on 3rd down. I'd like to see em mix it up a bit, but still have a strong running game.

This year is Dom Capers' make or break year. If they finish the season below .500, he is as good as gone.

Maybe. It could just be Palmer that gets fired though.

Perhaps. If that is the case, I just don't see the Texans hiring a flashy offensive coordinator to go with Capers, so that's why I think both will be gone.

The RC Scrotum comparison is spot on. Both guys coach football as if this were the 1960's. Greg Davis would be the perfect offensive coordinator for Dom Capers if Palmer were ever to get canned.

I didnt like that either but I heard Casserly say they didnt want to reveal too much of the goal line offense in the first preseason game. I'll cut them some slack for now but they have the personnel to open up the offense a lot more. I also hope another receiver establishes himself as a go to man to take the pressure off of Andre. If not they need to use the tight ends more.

Even when he is doubled and tripled? Others on the offense need to step up like Domanick did. However this is just pre-season and their one drive did look nice.

Last year Carr had 466 pass attempts.
McNabb had 469
Brady had 474
Bulger had 485
Manning had 497
Peyton Manning, who broke virtually every passing record held for a single season, averaged around 1.75 more attempts per game than David Carr.

How about pulling the right guard to cover Lynch and have Robaire take on the DT directly. DD could just ride Robaires tail. Just a thought.
Seriously - They could have done something different on 4th down without revealing much.
