Redding has never given up more than 16 HR's in a year. Astacio's ability to give up the long ball in mind boggling.

What do you want man? Pitcher's are going to make mistakes, especially rookie pitchers. We're lucky we got one Cy Young quality starter out of our minor league system. Right now Astacio's a 5th starter, and unless your the Yankmees you're not going to get quality starts from them every time.

Astacio only gave up four runs today in six innings. You can't really ask for much more out of a 5th starter. He kept them in the game. The bats have to come back around.

The funny part about all of this is that the Yankees would kill for a starter who could give up ONLY 4 runs in 6 innings let alone a 25-year-old starter with what could eventually be one of the top 5 splitters in baseball.

Redding's problem wasn't that he couldn't keep the ball down - it was that the slightest little problem would essentially lead to his implosion. An error, a slow relay on a double play ball, a hard hit double - anything could set him off.

Astacio's problem is that he doesn't completely harness his stuff, and sometimes leaves his pitches right in the wheelhouse. Astacio is having problems, and it might mean he won'tever be a consistent starting pitcher - but it's not the same problem as Redding had.

Zeke is a rookie pitcher. If he's the same next year, then you can start comparing him to Redding. I didn't expect him to continue pitching great every game. We can only hope he steadies the ship quickly and we can add to our lead because both he and Wandy could find it difficult to pitch well under the pressure of a September playoff race.

Giving up 4 runs in 6 innings is NOT good. That equates to an ERA of 6.00 which absolutely sucks. What's really sad is that he lowered his ERA today.

He's given up 6 homers in his last two starts and has given up multiple home runs in 7 of his 12 appearances this season.

I was thinking Jose Lima more than Tim Redding. :D

I sat through Astacio's start in Arlington. I sat through today's game. True, 4 runs in 6 innings isn't that bad. The problem is that he is so prone to giving up the long ball.

Some days, he's a solid fifth starter. And other days, he is throwing batting practice out there. It's scary.

To me,Redding's problem has always been between the ears.From the moment Tim came up he had an attitude and I don't think he ever got past 1st with regards to that.
Astacio's problems appear to be linked to his youth and his inability to control his fantastic stuff.Zeke seems like he's very coachable and has his head on straight.
Me thinks it's just growing pains.

Redding had his chances, plenty of them. This is Zeke's first season in the bigs, patience people. If Backe was healthy Zeke wouldn't even be in the bigs.

This guy is way better than redding in my opinion. Rediings main problem was a really true fastball and no strikeout pitch whatsoever. This guy on the other hand has good movement on his fastball and has a really good splitter. That is one of the best strikeout pitches to have. Hopefully he will correct his control and stop leaving pitches over the middle of the plate. :)
